Swedish Lapland puts Abisko and Kiruna at around 65°N magnetic, inside the auroral oval, with thresholds of Kp 0.6 and 0.8. Both sit inland and east of the Scandinavian mountains, which matters more than the small difference in latitude: they are drier and more settled than the Norwegian coast at the same latitude, and both peak in March.
Required Kp is calibrated from magnetic latitude, not the latitude on a map, which is why two places at the same map position can need very different activity.
Kp 0.6 at Abisko and Kp 0.8 at Kiruna, from magnetic latitudes of 65.3°N and 64.8°N. Both are low enough that ordinary quiet nights are enough, and neither needs a geomagnetic storm.
It is drier than the Norwegian coast at the same latitude, which is the substance behind its reputation: it sits inland, east of the mountains that catch the weather coming off the Atlantic. It is not cloud-free, and our month-by-month curves put its strongest month in March rather than midwinter.
September to March at both destinations, with March the strongest month at each. Midwinter gives longer darkness but less settled skies, so the equinox months tend to win on balance.
